WHY THE EYE AREA AGES DIFFERENTLY
We've mentioned ad nauseam that the under eye skin is delicate, but why? Let's delve into the anatomy to get a deeper understanding
The under eye skin is the thinnest on your face, so anything that goes on underneath will show up immediately. It also has less circulation and fewer oil glands that help other areas of our skin stay nice and perky. But beyond that, this is also one of the areas of your face the experience the most micro movements (you blink up to 20,000 times a day) contributing to the fine lines.
The process of aging exasperate these processes, and research also suggest that fat pads and underlying ligaments also start to shift.
All of this to say this is why eye formulations are different, because we're dealing with a whole other beast here. So if you are serious about healthy aging, the eye is a great place to start and it's also why our eye cream is a staple in our healthy aging night set.

EYE CREAM WITH ACTIVES
When we talk about "active ingredients" in skincare we are referring to biologically active ingredients. They're extremely powerful, but they also need to be handled with care in this sensitive area.
Some examples of active ingredients are vitamin c (brightens), retinols (boosts collagen and skin renewal), or acids for exfoliation. They create biological chain reactions in the skin, which is why you have to be really careful and in this case it's especially important to use formulations intended for the eye area.
These formulations are calibrated at lower strengths or use less reactive forms of the active ingredients. We're big fans of Paula's Choice vitamin C Eye serum for brightening, and this SkinPlan retinol eye care cream for fighting fine lines. But as with any active ingredients, start slow and build up to see if you tolerate them.
As always, but in particular when using actives, don't forget to generously apply SPF on this delicate area!
