SKINCARE AND BEARDS

We often get asked how you should factor your beard into your skincare routine. Since so much of the skincare content online is targeted toward women, this topic is rarely covered in educational material.  Should you avoid the area altogether, or just apply everything over it?

The short answer: it’s (skincare) business as usual, whether you’re clean-shaven, rocking some scruff, or sporting a full beard. That said, there are some nuances worth diving into and understanding the why behind your routine is always valuable. So read on for a deep dive into skin and beard care.

HEALTHY SKIN = HEALTHY BEARD

While the fundamentals of your 4-step skincare routine remain largely the same, a few steps take on extra importance if you have a beard. Here’s how to think about each step with facial hair in the mix:

  1. Cleanse: While always  important, cleansing will be extra more crucial if you have facial hair as it traps dirt, dead cells, oil and sweat. As a general rule cleansing your face once a day (at night) for about 30s is enough, but if you find the skin around your beard gets congested you may want to increase it to twice a day.  For longer beards (9mm/0.35 in +) considering using a gentle beard shampoo once or twice a week helping both the hair and the skin underneath.
  2. Treat: Not much to note here, most serums are light and fast absorbing so they can be applied right over your facial hair. Just make sure you work the product into the skin beneath.
  3. Moisturize: A common mistake is avoiding the beard area when moisturizing. Not only does the skin under your beard need hydration and nutrients, but moisturizing also helps soften your beard, reduce itchiness, and improve manageability. Once again, massage your moisturizer all the way down to the skin.
  4. OPTIONAL STEP -  Beard oil: If your beard is longer and tends to get dry, beard oil can be a nice addition. Apply it after moisturiser as it helps to lock moisture into the hair.
  5. Protect: We've said it before and we'll say it again, SPF is the holy grail of anti ageing skincare and UV rays can still reach your skin through facial - even through the thickest beard. Make sure to apply SPF across your whole face, including under your beard. If you find some sunscreens leave residue or an odd smell in your beard, look for a lightweight, quick-absorbing formula, like our FULL FACIAL PROTECTION.
The bottom line is:  the routine fundamentals don't change with a beard, but the priorities shift a bit. Paying extra attention to cleansing and moisturising will do wonders for your skin and facial hair!

LE FIX: THE MASK FORMULATED FOR BEARDS

Our best selling an award winning face mask LE FIX is basically formulated with facial hair in mind. Not just the ingredients but  the mechanics too!

LE FIX's unique two-piece design lets you choose whether to cover your whole face or avoid the beard area entirely, making it adaptable no matter your grooming style.

The formula is packed with calming, barrier-repairing ingredients that help soothe the irritation and micro-cuts caused by shaving, while delivering deep hydration to keep skin resilient. By replenishing moisture and reducing redness, it not only supports smoother, healthier-looking skin but also makes your facial hair feel softer and less itchy. For men who shave often, it’s an easy way to transform recovery into a refreshing, skin-strengthening ritual.

SHAVING & SKINCARE

Even if you prefer a clean shaven look and don't rock a beard on the reg, regular shaving still brings its own set of skincare considerations

At the end of the day, the act of shaving is essentially running a sharp blade across your face which inevitably creates tiny cuts and micro-lesions that can lead to bumps, razor burn, or ingrown hairs.

On one hand this makes mens' skin more vulnerable and sometimes more reactive, but on the other hand the good news is that skincare can help counteract the stress shaving puts on your skin.

Ingredients with calming and barrier-repairing properties, like cicaplast, can soothe irritation and speed up recovery. Products containing zinc can also help keep small nicks clean and reduce inflammation, while lightweight moisturizers ensure the skin barrier stays resilient. If you’re prone to post-shave bumps or ingrown hairs, introducing a gentle exfoliant such as salicylic acid a few times a week can help keep pores clear and prevent clogged follicles. The key is striking the right balance: calming the skin while keeping it smooth and clear.
