Soft Hands for the Cold Months

SOFT HANDS SEASON

Welcome to this weeks edition of The Narcyssist. As we head into the cold winter months in the norther hemisphere, many of you may struggle with dry, cracked or calloused hands.

We're here to help so read on for some tips and tricks on how to make your hands soft and irresistible this winter season with some simple hand care tips.

HANDS NEED CARE TOO

Hands work harder than most part of your body, but they often receive little care. The first line of defence for cracked hands is diligent moisturising. here's why
Cold temperature, sun, wind, soap, gym bars... hands don't have it easy with the constant exposure to the elements. They take a beating and it shows up as dry and cracked skin.

A solid hand cream is your best friend in the winter, and consistent use keeps your skin strong, comfortable and healthy enough to keep up with you. UPPER HAND was designed with that in mind, a deeply nourishing  and fast absorbing treatment that softens roughness without greasiness. And it smells damn good too!

Want a little extra kick for irrestible softness? Our face scrub ASH doubles as a wonderful hand scrub: after washing apply it like soap and scrub for a few seconds. Follow up with UPPER HAND for an amazing feel

LOCKING IN MOISTURE

Ever noticed how fancy hotels and gyms pair their handsoap with a bottle of moisturiser? There's a reason for that

Avid readers of The Narcycisst are all too familiar with "locking in moisture." But for a quick recap, humectants (the ingredients in skincare that hold on to moisture) work best by sealing in water already present on your skin.

Your hands are no different and the best way to avoid dryness and make sure your hands stay hydrated is by applying your handcream right after washing. So whenever you use MAIN AU CIEL (which is packed with humectants) be sure to seal it all in with UPPER HAND afterwards. We always carry a tube on us for a quick refresh wherever we may need a toilet break.

RIDDING YOURSELF OF HARDENED SKIN

You may think you can moisturise their way out of cracked or callused skin on your hands, heels, and elbows... But you're going to need something a little more heavy hitting.

While dryness can cause cracked and hardened skin, moisturiser alone will not get rid of the resulting buildup. Here at the Narcyss HQ we keep a tube of ASH in the bathroom for hand use, but if the buildup is severe you're going to want to opt for a chemical exfoliant.

In most cases, your best friend will be products containing the humectant Urea in high concentrations, like this one from Eucerin. Put a thick layer on your heels before bed, and for better result sleep with socks on to seal it all in. This also works great on hardened elbows or knees.

While urea is a wonderful and versatile ingredient, if you have some stubborn callusing on your palms from hitting the barbell a little extra your best solution won't be found in the beauty aisle... Instead head over to a hardware store and look for some working-hands cream

A very masculine solution for gentle hands if you ask us...
