Winter Lessons from the Winter Olympics

As the olympics wrapped up last night with the incredible US-Canada Hockey game we are in awe of the greatness we've witnessed from all the athletes!

From Klaebo's sweeps, to Liu's jumps we've witnessed a lot of great life advice and it got us thinking about skincare and wellness. Here's what we learned

WEAR THE DAMN SUNSCREEN

Let's be real, the olympics are really about skiing. Whether nordic or alpine, the first line of defense is gear and helmets but medalists have another secret weapon to greatness.

Sun, high altitude, wind, and snow is a perfect recipe for sunburn. When you're crushing 50k on a pair of nordic skis like gold medalists Klaebo or redemption-queen Ebba Andersson, or hurling yourself down a slope of ice at 100 km/h like super-g silver medalist Ryan Cochran Siegle your skin needs a "helmet" too.

And Cochran Siegle knows this better than anyone; "Skincare is important" he said in an interview with WIRED after his podium run. Which is why he always keeps at least a 30 SPF on hand.  "He uses it even on overcast days to shield his face from UV exposure and windburn."

We couldn't agree more king. And you don't need to be an olympic athlete to protect your skin in the winter. Wear the damn sunscreen!

IDGAF YOUR WAY TO GREAT SKIN

America’s new ice princess Alysa Liu ended a 24-year medal drought in women’s figure skating, and did it with a mindset that feels radical in the notoriously brutal sport of figure skating: not caring too much.

If you haven’t read about Liu’s story and her approach to competition, do yourself a favor and read this article or watch her winning skate. She’s brought something light, self-possessed, and genuinely joyful back to figure skating.

Liu wasn’t at the Olympics chasing perfection or obsessing over the medals. She was there because she loves skating and she does it on her own terms. As many have put it, she IDGAF’d her way to gold.

That energy maps perfectly to our skincare philosophy at Narcyss.
You don’t need to double-cleanse twice a day. You don’t need five serums and three moisturizers. You don’t need a routine that feels like homework. What you need is consistency, simplicity, and rituals you actually enjoy... So you can IDGAF your way to great skin.

COLD SPORTS, STILL SWEATING

In winter sports there's a simple rule: sweat is the first thing that freezes. You can't avoid it, but you can manage it.

It’s not the snow or the wind that gets you, it’s sweat sitting on your skin. Once you’re damp, the cold hits harder, friction gets worse, and everything from chafing to frostbite shows up fast.

Olympians know this. That’s why they obsess over technical base layers, quick changes, and anti-perspirant (ideally one that smells damn good too).

Same principle, smaller scale. If your toes get cold in your boots or your fingers freeze in your gloves, start with the basics: clean off leftover sweat from your feet or hands with soap and fully dry before you head. If all else fails, a little powder goes a long way too.
