STRAIGHT FROM THE SOURCE

Our goal with this newsletter is to sift through the endless stream of skincare information so you don’t have to. Every now and then, though, we like to point you directly to some of the voices and sources we rely on ourselves. Here are a few recent podcast and video episodes we think are worth your time.

HUBERMAN THE OPTIMIZER

While Andrew Huberman may be a god for over-optimization bros (we don’t do that around here), there are occasionally good nuggets in his podcast episodes that we can take to heart

This episode works precisely because skincare isn’t Andrew Huberman’s core area of expertise. Instead of going deep into neuro-optimization weeds, he plays the curious host and lets a board-certified dermatologist guide the conversation making it far more accessible than some of his more technical episodes.

They cover the fundamentals: how sun exposure actually impacts skin aging, why barrier function matters, and what ingredients like niacinamide or simple moisturizers really do. It’s practical, easy to follow, and a solid listen for anyone who wants a smarter skincare baseline without falling into the over-optimization bandwagon.

DR. IDRISS ON MEL ROBBINS

If you don’t know Mel Robbins yet, your wife, girlfriend, or mother certainly does. She’s the author of TikTok’s favourite self-help book, The Let Them Theory, and one of the biggest voices in motivational media right now.

In a recent episode of her podcast she brought on a guest that may sound familiar to dedicated readers of The Narcycisst: Dr. Shereene Idriss. We regularly cite her work as she is one of the few dermatologists who can break down skin science in an accessible way without sliding into marketing. If you don't follow her on socials already, we highly recommend it.

The conversation is slightly tailored to women (think hormones, pigmentation, and menopause), but the fundamentals apply to everyone: sun protection, healthy aging, smart ingredient choices, and not overcomplicating your routine. It’s practical, myth-busting, and down-to-earth.

YOUTUBE'S FAVOURITE DERM-DUO

If podcasts aren't your thing and you're more of a visual learner, you're going to want to check out Doctorly on YouTube.

Run by licensed dermatologists Muneeb Shah and Daniel Sugai, their channel has built a huge following by translating clinical dermatology into clear and actionable advice.

A great place to start is their video “7 Life-Changing Skincare Habits You Need to Start NOW.” Much like Dr. Idriss, instead of pushing complicated routines, they focus on the fundamentals that actually move the needle: sunscreen, proper cleansing, protecting your skin barrier, and thinking long-term about skin health. Science-backed and easy to implement.

Allegedly, the duo have started a new podcast (because the world needs another podcasts). We haven't listened to it yet but if it's anything like their videos we're confident it's worth a listen.

OUR STORY

Narcyss is a wellness brand for the modern citizen that is inclusive, aspirational and inspirational. We believe it’s ok to enjoy a Negroni or two at dinner and to do yoga in the morning, it’s ok to get high and go running when you come down, it’s ok to do what you can to age in a healthy way, not in an ”anti” way. The Narcyss philosophy of “a life well lived”, modern wellness and healthy ageing is a welcome perspective in the beauty industry.
